Pakistan EV Adoption Push Targets 30% Transition by 2030
Pakistan has announced an ambitious plan to transition 30% of the country’s vehicles to electric mobility within the next five years, marking a major step toward reducing fuel dependency and strengthening long-term energy security. The announcement came during a high-level review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, where officials discussed the country’s roadmap for accelerating electric vehicle adoption and expanding EV infrastructure nationwide.
According to official statements, the shift toward electric mobility could help Pakistan save nearly $4.5 billion in fuel imports over the next five years – a significant development for a country facing rising energy costs and pressure on foreign exchange reserves. EV Charging Infrastructure Becomes a National Priority
As part of the initiative, officials confirmed that 72 manufacturing certificates have already been issued for electric motorcycles and rickshaws, along with four certificates for electric car production. Authorities also revealed that more than 120 applications have been submitted for EV charging station development across Pakistan.
The expansion of EV charging infrastructure is expected to play a key role in supporting the country’s transition toward cleaner transportation.
